[cid:image003.png at 01DA1793.C7D77AF0]The New York State Office of Mental Health proudly recognizes Transgender Awareness Week, recognized from Monday Nov.13 until Sunday Nov.19. Transgender Awareness week is a time dedicated to raising awareness about the unique experiences faced by transgender and gender non-conforming individuals. During this week, we affirm our commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive mental health landscape that respects and validates the diverse experiences of the transgender community. Transgender Awareness Week serves as an opportunity to amplify the voices of transgender individuals, highlight their resilience, and acknowledge the importance of mental health in their overall well-being. The Office of Mental Health provides affirming and accessible mental health services that address the specific needs and concerns of transgender individuals, recognizing the intersectionality of mental health with gender identity.

We recognize that the language we use matters to those around us. These resources are an integral part to providing trauma-informed care and supporting the wellness of transgender and gender non-conforming New Yorkers.

OMH's Office of Diversity and Inclusion is excited to partner with Dr. Christian Huygen from Rainbow Heights Club to make their training webinar - Trans 101: Creating a Safe and Affirming Environment for Transgender Consumers available to behavioral health providers outside New York City. This engaging presentation will focus on how to affirm, support and work with mental health consumers who identify as transgender or gender nonconforming and will also highlight the mental health concerns that disproportionately impact this community due to stigma and marginalization. Attendees will come away with a greater sense of comfort and confidence about interacting with transgender and gender-nonconforming people in a respectful and affirming manner. The State of New York Office of Mental Health is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Psychology as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed psychologists #PSY-0122 and by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0227. Licensed Master Social Workers (LMSWs), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), and Psychologists who attend this class in its entirety will receive 1.5 contact hours toward renewal of their license.
