For us, it's a time to celebrate our rebranding from NYAPRS to the Alliance of Rights and Recovery! And it's also a time to express our deep gratitude for our many warm friends and steadfast partners who share our great mission to promote rights, recovery and community across our state and nation.

The heart of who we are and what we do can best be embodied at our two premiere annual events, our Annual Conference and Albany Legislative Day.

  *   Workforce: we won a 3rd successive cost of living increase<https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/central-ny/politics/2023/03/22/advocates-urge-8-5--cost-of-living-adjustment-for-direct-support-professionals> here in New York, thanks to the determined efforts of our colleagues and community, and launched the  New York Psychiatric Rehabilitation training Academy<https://psychrehabacademy.org/> thanks to OMH's support.
  *    Human Rights and Self-Determination: the INSE<https://omh.ny.gov/omhweb/rfp/2023/inset/index.html>T model that provides a peer-led alternative to Kendra's Law outpatient commitment orders received a $16 million investment over the next 5 years by Governor Hochul<https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-hochul-announces-12-million-awarded-engage-individuals-complex-mental-health-needs>.
  *   Criminal Justice Reform: we were part of an extraordinary coalition that won passage of Clean Slate<https://www.cleanslateny.org/> legislation that will provide millions of New York families with  the opportunity to thrive as past conviction records begin to seal, are a member of the Daniel's Law<https://www.danielslawny.org/> coalition that is pressing for mental health alternative-to-police first responders and are promoting a waiver<https://rightsandrecovery.org/e-news-bulletins/2023/07/12/nys-preparing-to-apply-for-medicaid-waiver-for-incarcerated-people/> that would restore Medicaid for people poised to leave prisons and jails.
  *   Peer Services: we are in the process of expanding our TA to promote our Peer Bridger(tm)<file:///C:/Users/LenStatham/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/Content.Outlook/R3QY0WOQ/level%20Peer%20Bridger(tm)%20model> model in additional states and are working with the National Council to encourage Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics to outsource their peer services<https://www.thenationalcouncil.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/110920_CCBHC_Peer_Services_Mtg_Toolkit-2.pdf> to area peer-run agencies.
  *   Community Integration: as a member of the state's Most Integrated Setting Coordinating Council<https://www.ny.gov/office-chief-disability-officer/most-integrated-setting-coordinating-council-miscc>, we are working closely with NY's Chief Disability Officer and new Olmstead Director to update NY's Olmstead Plan.
  *   Racial and Gender Equity: We have a history of commitment to the proliferation of anti-racist agencies<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_D0ly36yMM> and policies<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_D0ly36yMM> that promote cultural competence<https://rightsandrecovery.org/resources/cultural-competency-and-a-nation-in-crisis-dealing-with-the-effects-of-racism-sexism-in-our-practice-during-the-covid-crisis/>.
  *   Expanding our National Presence: We were invited to participate in numerous meetings with federal agencies including with SAMHSA on the new Office of Recovery<https://www.samhsa.gov/about-us/who-we-are/offices-centers/or> and Peer Workforce initiatives<https://www.samhsa.gov/brss-tacs/recovery-support-tools/peers> and the Department of Justice on Olmstead enforcement<https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-issues-technical-assistance-document-enforcement-supreme-court-decision> and are currently working with fellow national grassroots advocacy groups to win passage of the federal Peer Act.<https://www.peersupportworks.org/national-association-of-peer-supporters-endorses-the-peer-support-act/>
