NYAPRS Note: The following comes from NYAPRS' Len Statham & Rob Statham: "Our friends at the Northeast & Caribbean Addiction Technology Transfer Center (NeC-ATTC) in partnership with NYAPRS will be offering a Learning Collaborative on the "Multiple Pathways to Employment." This exciting learning collaborative will be offered at no cost to providers. This Learning Collaborative will give providers an overview of self -employment, apprenticeships, and the gig economy, as well as the benefits of introducing it to the individuals that utilize services.

Join the NeC-ATTC/NYAPRS Learning Collaborative: Multiple Pathways to Employment

The Northeast & Caribbean Addiction Technology Transfer Center (NeC-ATTC) and the New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (NYAPRS) is pleased to announce the 2020 Multiple Pathways to Employment Learning Collaborative, a free, training, and intensive technical assistance opportunity.  Up to eight (8) Behavioral health and Substance Use organizations located in New York will be selected to receive face-to-face training, individual onsite consultation, and web-based implementation support.
Overview: Assisting Individuals with Behavioral Health Challenges, including SUD obtain and maintain employment has been a mainstay of our employment programs for a number of years.  While the traditional course of action of obtaining employment was to work for an employer in the community, research is suggesting that self-employment and apprenticeships also work well for individuals with these conditions, yet many programs are not equipped with the knowledge to assist individuals to move in this direction. This ATTC-NYAPRS Multiple Pathways to Employment Project will focus on helping individuals navigate these new paths toward employment (self- employment, apprenticeships, "gig economy" work) and help programs assist individuals to be successful in this arena.  In today's 'gig economy", it is easier than ever to create your own path to employment. Using the tools provided through the Multiple Pathways Project, providers will become experts at assisting Individuals gain and maintain self- employment.

Topics in the January -July Learning Collaborative Include:

1.   Understand how self-employment & the "gig economy" may benefit people with mental health/SUD challenges in returning to the workforce.

2.   Introduce participants to methodologies of self-employment, non-traditional employment opportunities, and apprenticeships

3.   Integrate self-employment as a natural extension of your employment-based programming.
4.   Demonstrate your organization's ability to support participants move toward self- employment and non-traditional pathways to employment.

5.   Expose participants to the many resources that exist to support self-employment and non-traditional employment opportunities.

The Learning Collaborative offers Individualized Organization Technical Assistance and coaching, monthly live knowledge building webinars presented by subject matter experts, monthly peer group meetings with all learning collaborative attendees to hone skills, network and share experiences
