Social Determinants

This program focuses on social determinants of health <http://www.psychrehabassociation.org/webinars/social-determinants-health#overlay-context=search/node/determinants> as defined in Health People 2020 and applied to the SAMHSA 8 Dimensions of Wellness. With the impact of chronic health conditions on illness morbidity and mortality among people in recovery, recognizing the ways in which these social determinants affect health and wellness is a critical issue for psychiatric rehabilitation programs. Discussion includes examples of the ways these factors affect community health and provides basic strategies for implementing health and wellness initiatives within agencies. In particular, facilitators review the impact of social determinants on health within two example locations. This course is the first in a series of webinars focusing on chronic health conditions that differentially affect people in recovery and tools that can be used to promote wellness.
