NYAPRS Note: Last week, ACMHA: The College for Behavioral Health Leadership, announced the release of a toolkit aimed at promoting an increased role for peer-run services: Peer Services Toolkit: A Guide to Advancing and Implementing Peer-run Behavioral Health Services<https://www.acmha.org/images/uploads/files/Peer-Services_Toolkit_2014.pdf>. The guide was derived from discussions among 25 peer service leaders that took place at an Optum funded Seminar at last year’s ACMHA Annual Summit and from follow up efforts by principal author Patrick Hendry in conjunction with input from members of ACMHA’s Peer Leaders Interest Group.
ACMHA is sponsoring a webinar on the Toolkit that will feature Patrick and PLIG co-chairs and editors Tom Hill and Harvey Rosenthal on February 4th: see below for details.

   Mental Health America
• Tom Hill, MSW, Senior Associate, Altarum Institute
• Harvey Rosenthal, CEO, NYAPRS

This webinar is an introduction to ACMHA’s new Peer Services Toolkit, sponsored by Optum. Our presenters will guide the audience through the document with special focus on strategies for peer-run organizations in preparing for and marketing themselves to provide services in the new healthcare environment.

Peer services are a unique and powerful tool in providing recovery and resiliency-oriented services and achieving higher quality of life and clinical outcomes. Managed care and traditional community behavioral health care have discovered that peer support results in better outcomes, lower re-hospitalization rates, and increased overall customer satisfaction and self-management.

The toolkit provides a comprehensive overview of the nature of peer support, its’ origins, outcome data, essential elements, certification and training, qualifications and core values, providing services within peer-run and traditional agencies, state level advocacy for peer support services, working with managed care, and other related topics.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
