NYAPRS Note: Please contact your Congressional representative today to urge their support for the Excellence in Mental Health Act, which would extend new federal funding and support to community behavioral health organizations that meet certain standards of care and improve services while reducing hospitalizations, incarcerations, and emergency department usage. The National Council notes below that the Excellence Act may very well be offered as an amendment to H.R. 2810.

Dear Harvey,

Behavioral health providers all around the U.S. are straining to meet the demand for treatment services. But with steadily decreasing funding and razor-thin margins, many are struggling just to stay afloat.

A vote on Wednesday in the House could help change that. Will you contact your Representative<https://www.votervoice.net/link/target/nationalcouncil/GqWNqQKQ.aspx> and ask him or her to vote yes?

The Excellence in Mental Health Act would extend new federal funding and support to community behavioral health organizations that meet certain standards of care. These resources would help community providers serve more individuals and provide a much-needed stable funding source in an era of state and federal budget cuts.

The National Council has learned that a version of the Excellence Act may be offered as an amendment to a Medicare bill coming before the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Wednesday.

As a member of the committee, your Representative has a powerful say in whether or not the Excellence Act amendment moves forward. They need to hear from you about your support for this important legislation. Click here to take action<https://www.votervoice.net/link/target/nationalcouncil/GqWNqQKQ.aspx>.

It's up to us to urge Congress to do the right thing for mental health and addiction treatment. Please take 2 minutes<https://www.votervoice.net/link/target/nationalcouncil/GqWNqQKQ.aspx> to send your Representative a note today!

Thank you for all that you do.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Farley
Director, Policy & Advocacy
National Council for Behavioral Health
