NYAPRS Note: Heartfelt congratulations to this year's distinguished
NYAPRS 2012 Award winners, who will receive their awards either at the
upcoming September 19-21 NYAPRS Annual Conference or at our 2013
Legislative Day in Albany on January 29. 

 

The NYAPRS Board of Directors is pleased to present our 2012 Award
Winners

 

The BRENDAN NUGENT LEADERSHIP AWARD is presented to an inspiring peer
leader 

in promoting and advocating for the empowerment of people with
psychiatric disabilities.

Celia Brown, NYS Office of Mental Health, New York, NY 

 

The FRANCES OLIVERO ADVOCACY AWARD is presented to an individual who has
demonstrated 

inspiring community leadership and unique contributions in advocacy 

around a particular issue on behalf of people with psychiatric
disabilities.

Amy Colesante, Mental Health Empowerment Project, Albany, NY

 

The LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD is presented to an individual who has a
long record

of exemplary contributions to the recovery, rehabilitation and/or rights
of people with psychiatric disabilities.

Muriel Shepherd, NAMI-NYS

Michael Hogan, PhD, NYS Office of Mental Health, Albany, NY

 

The MARTY SMITH MEMORIAL AWARD is presented to an inspired and dedicated


community mental health worker/agency who has demonstrated exemplary
contributions 

to the advancement of best practices in service to New Yorkers with
psychiatric disabilities.

John Javis Mental Health Association in Nassau County, Hempstead, NY

  

The PARTNERS WITH FAMILIES AWARD is presented to an individual who has
demonstrated 

inspiring leadership in the advancement of the alliance of families and
consumers 

in promoting the recovery, rehabilitation and rights of people with
psychiatric disabilities.

Wendy Brennan, NAMI-NYC Metro, New York, NY

 

The PUBLIC EDUCATION/MEDIA AWARD is presented to an individual or
organization 

who has demonstrated extraordinary public education efforts to advance 

the needs and highlight the accomplishments of New Yorkers with
psychiatric disabilities.

Lucy Winer, Wildlight Productions, New York, NY

 

The PUBLIC POLICY LEADERSHIP AWARD is presented to a public official who
has demonstrated 

outstanding public leadership on behalf of New Yorkers with psychiatric
disabilities.

Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, NYS Assembly, Albany, NY

Senator Ray McDonald, NYS Senate, Albany, NY

 

The FAITH & FELLOWSHIP AWARD is presented to an individual who has been
an extraordinary source 

of kindness, caring and devotion to people within their local mental
health community.

Marguerite Gayle, Transitional Living Services, Whitestone, NY

 

The QUINCY BOYKIN MEMORIAL AWARD is presented to a person or
organization in heartfelt recognition of their inspiring contributions
to the rights, recovery and inclusion of all New Yorkers with
psychiatric disabilities.
