The National Empowerment Center Invites You To Attend An Historic
Discussion

at the Red Lion Inn At Stockbridge, Massachusetts on Monday, Nov. 8,
2010

Robert Whitaker, Joanne Greenberg, Daniel Mackler and Others Present:

Innovative Programs Of Psychiatric Care In Europe And The US That Are
Producing Good Long-Term Outcomes

In western Lapland in Finland, the Open Dialogue approach has resulted
in the best long-term outcomes in the Western World. Why does this
approach work so well, and could it be adopted here? Meanwhile, in
Britain, depressed patients can obtain a prescription for exercise,
which has been shown to produce a much better long-term stay-well rate.
These presentations will explore approaches that have proven to produce
good long-term outcomes, and also look at other promising alternative
therapies.

* Joanne Greenberg is the author of 18 books including I Never
Promised You a Rose Garden, a fictionalized depiction of her treatment
experience at Chestnut Lodge Hospital in Rockville, Maryland, during
which she was in psychoanalytic treatment with Frieda Fromm-Reichmann.

* Robert Whitaker is an award-winning science journalist and the
author, most recently, of Anatomy of an Epidemic: Magic Bullets,
Psychiatric Drugs, and the Astonishing Rise of Mental Illness in America
(2010). Daniel Mackler produced the documentary, Take These Broken
Wings, and just completed a year of visiting innovative programs
throughout the world.
