Self-Determination and Innovation

The Fall 2010 issue of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Journal focuses on
the work of the National Research and Training Center on Psychiatric
Disability, located at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Department
of Psychiatry. Special Section articles developed from the Center's
State of the Science Conference entitled "Self-Determination: The Fierce
Urgency of Now" include outcomes of two statewide initiatives using
Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP), the use of asset development
programs to enhance the economic security of people living with
psychiatric disabilities, and the results of a web-based survey of peer
run programs to better understand cultural competency issues. View the
complete list of articles available in this issue at www.bu.edu/cpr/prj

Combating Prejudice and Discrimination Through Photovoice Empowerment

Combating Prejudice and Discrimination Through Photovoice Empowerment
<http://www.bu.edu/cpr/products/curricula/photovoice.html> is a new
curriculum intended to promote dialogue and awareness about personal and
community issues through photography. The Photovoice process lays out
stages for defining the goals of a project, anticipating an audience,
taking pictures and telling stories about them, evaluation, and
presentation. The experience of Photovoice creates a powerful medium for
group reflection on and discussion of critical life experiences,
especially for people living with serious psychiatric disabilities. This
curriculum can be implemented at outpatient mental health and
rehabilitation settings as well as peer-run programs and centers. For
further information see
