Director, The Empowerment Exchange

Troy, NY

Full Time Position, Competitive salary with Excellent Benefits

 

 

The Mental Health Empowerment Project, Inc. (MHEP) is a recipient run Not for Profit Corporation organized in 1988 to develop and strengthen self help and mutual support activities throughout the United States. 

 

The Empowerment Exchange is a community center operated by MHEP in Troy, New York. This center offers:

 

à        Individualized peer to peer outreach and support to individuals that assists them to reach out and connect to their neighborhoods and communities.

 

à        Advocacy services that protect the rights and interests of the individual.

 

à        Information related to self help, mutual support, rights, natural community supports and alternatives.

 

à        A range of community based self help groups and activities that promote wellness, recovery and self determination.

 

à        A peer support line that is operated by individuals in all stages of recovery (as of April 2009).

 

The Director of the Empowerment Exchange works with the MHEP team to accomplish the following goals:

 

1.	Identify, cultivate & support meaningful and substantial forms of systems advocacy in Rensselaer County by mentoring people who use mental health services to have an impact on policy development, planning and implementation of new initiatives.

 

2.	Cultivate, nurture and support peer support activities throughout the cities of Rensselaer and Hoosick Falls through outreach, engagement and community organizing strategies.

 

3.	Offer monthly self help and empowerment seminars featuring guest speakers designed to assist people in recovery to find and connect with their personal power and the power of self help.

 

4.	Increase availability of self help and peer support related groups and activities at county hospitals and clinics that will cultivate the ability to make informed, independent choices and use recovery-oriented tools to address challenges and identify and build on strengths.

 

Qualifications

 

The ideal candidate for this position will have supervisory experience, computer skills, demonstrated ability to work independently, event planning experience, strong leadership and team building skills and excellent written and oral communication skills. Comfort and experience with public speaking and training is a must. Our ideal candidate will also be a person who has been given a psychiatric label and has personal experience with the mental health system. A clean, valid NYS driver's license is a must.

Program Director

NYS Office of Mental Health licensed outpatient program in upstate New York is seeking a Program Director with strong knowledge of recovery and experience in managing a psychiatric rehabilitation program.  Candidates should possess strong management and leadership skills and have experience in program development and outcomes management.
