NYAPRS Note: The following announcement comes to us from the New York
State Office of Mental Heath.

OMH Website Making Mental Health Services Information More Accessible
by Carol Barth Lanzara, MS, JD, Office of Performance Measurement and
Evaluation

June 2009

OMH is committed to making it easier for all New Yorkers to find better
information about mental health programs and services. As part of this
commitment, OMH recently added four new data Portals to the OMH Web
site.

The new Find a Mental Health Program
<http://www.omh.state.ny.us/omhweb/statistics/BridgesRedirect.html>
Portal helps users to find mental health programs by county of location
or program type. It is accessible from the OMH home page
<http://www.omh.state.ny.us/> . The Portal provides mental health
program information including program name and address and phone number
(for all programs other than residential programs). Links to agency Web
sites are provided where available. For OMH licensed programs,
information provided also includes license duration, program hours,
population served, and additional services available. For licensed
clinics, a quality symbol indicates that the clinic is participating in
the OMH Quality Improvement Initiative and a night hours symbol
indicates that the clinic has evening or weekend hours. To further
assist users, the Find a Mental Health Program
<http://www.omh.state.ny.us/omhweb/statistics/BridgesRedirect.html>
Portal includes program definitions, advanced search, and help pages.
Program and agency descriptions in the Portal are updated daily.

The three other new Portals describe mental health services at the local
level and are accessible from the OMH Statistics and Reports page
<http://www.omh.state.ny.us/omhweb/statistics/> . The new Patient
Characteristics Survey
<http://www.omh.state.ny.us/omhweb/statistics/pcs_redirect.html>  (PCS)
Portal allows users to better understand the population of individuals
served in OMH-funded or licensed programs. This dynamic Portal provides
demographic, clinical, and service-related information for each person
who receives a mental health service during the one-week survey period.
Summary reports describe client characteristics and Planning reports
present penetration rates and national outcome measures. The Portal also
links to historic PCS reports dating back to 1999.

The new Adult Housing
<http://www.omh.state.ny.us/omhweb/statistics/AdultHousingRedirect.html>
Portal presents the Residential Program Indicators (RPI) report, which
is a performance measurement reporting tool for adult housing programs
in New York State. Viewers can use RPI indicators to evaluate agency
residential programs based on county, regional, and statewide averages.

Finally, the new Kids Indicator
<http://www.omh.state.ny.us/omhweb/statistics/kids_redirect.html>
Portal expands the availability of data driven measures on youth and
family services in the State. In this portal, you can create multi-year
reports for individual programs as well as view reports from three years
of assessment of care surveys completed by youth and families.

The new Portals are part of OMH efforts to improve accountability and
transparency in New York State government. Their information can be used
as a starting point for formulating questions and initiating discussions
regarding the quality of mental health services, potential needs for
improvement, and the extent to which public mental health services meet
local needs. Staff in OMH's Office of Performance Measurement and
Evaluation hope you find the information in the new Portals helpful and
welcome your feedback regarding their content.
