The Long Island Committee On Sexual Abuse & Family Violence
Presents The 6th Annual Conference May 9, 2008
Melville Marriott 1350 Walt Whitman Road Melville, NY
The Sacred Self:
Uncovering New Evidence in the Treatment of Complex Trauma
Featuring Keynote Speaker Bessel A. van der Kolk, MD
About the Conference
The emotional states of fear, hurt, anger, and grief experienced by
victims of incest, sexual abuse and violence contrast sharply with the
emotionally neutral states that arise with Eastern yogic practices such
as mediation, Tai chi, Yoga and mindfulness. Current neural imaging
technologies have provided researchers with important new evidence about
both trauma and wellness states (Sacred Self.) Given the new environment
demanding medical necessity and evidence based practices, treatment
providers need to question if they should integrate these applications
in the clinical treatment of complex trauma. Dr. van der Kolk, through
theory and images will bridge this data into a new paradigm of
integrated treatment approaches.
