New York State Office of Mental Health Awards Grants to Conduct
Suicide Prevention Awareness and Education Campaigns
for Latina Adolescents and Elderly Asian Women

The NYS Office of Mental Health has awarded seven grants totaling over
$900,000 to conduct suicide prevention public awareness and education
campaigns separately targeting Latina adolescents and elderly Asian
women. The purpose of the campaigns is to help individuals identify
mental health needs, access services and strengthen linkages between the
target populations and their families, community and primary care system
according to their cultural and linguistic values. 

The grants which will target Latina adolescents have been awarded to the
following programs:

*         Families Together of New York State (Monroe and Erie Counties)


*         Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center (Brooklyn)

*         Communilife (Bronx) 

The grants which will target the elderly Asian women have been awarded
to the following programs:

*         Hamilton-Madison House (Statewide) 

*         Stony Brook University (Nassau and Suffolk Counties) 

*         Asian American Federation (New York City) 

*         Visiting Nurse Regional Health Care Services (Queens)
