NYAPRS Note: Tune in this Wednesday afternoon on the net to see what
progress the state agency and advocate members of the state's Most
Integrated Setting Coordinating Council (MISCC) are making in advancing
the community integration goals of New Yorkers with disabilities. This
meeting will feature presentations by all three MISCC tasks forces on
Housing, Transportation and, the newest one on Employment as well as
details regarding each participating state agency's stakeholder group.

The Most Integrated Setting Coordinating Council "is responsible for
developing a comprehensive Statewide plan to ensure that people of all
ages with physical and mental disabilities receive care and services in
the most integrated settings appropriate to their individual needs...

Currently chaired by Commissioner Diana Jones Ritter of the Office of
Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD), the Council
consists of representatives from ten State agencies and nine appointed
public representatives. NYS Agency Council members are: Office of Mental
Health <http://www.omh.state.ny.us/> , Department of Health
<http://www.nyhealth.gov/> , State Office for the Aging
<http://aging.state.ny.us/> , Office of Mental Retardation and
Developmental Disabilities <http://www.omr.state.ny.us/> , Education
Department <http://www.vesid.nysed.gov/> , Office of Alcoholism and
Substance Abuse Services <http://www.oasas.state.ny.us/> , Division of
Housing and Community Renewal <http://www.dhcr.state.ny.us/> ,
Department of Transportation <http://www.nysdot.gov/> , Office of
Children and Family Services <http://www.ocfs.state.ny.us/main/> , and
the Commission on Quality of Care and Advocacy for Persons with
Disabilities <http://cqcapd.state.ny.us/> . The nine appointed members
comprise: three consumers of services for individuals with disabilities
(includes NYAPRS' Harvey Rosenthal), three individuals with expertise in
the field of community services for people of all ages with disabilities
(includes NYAPRS member Karen Oates, CEO of the MHA of Rockland Co), and
three individuals with expertise in or recipients of services available
to senior citizens with disabilities."

 

Most Integrated Setting Coordinating Council Meeting Set

 

The Most Integrated Setting Coordinating Council (MISCC) will meet on
Wednesday, April 9, 2008, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Empire State Plaza,
Albany, New York, Concourse Level, OGS Meeting Room No. 6. 

 

The meeting will be available live on the Internet, and can be accessed
on April 9 at 1 p.m. by logging on to the NYS Office of Mental
Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Web site:
www.omr.state.ny.us.

 

The Most Integrated Setting Coordinating Council was established
pursuant to New York State Executive Law Article 25, Section 700. These
committee meetings are open for the public to attend, listen and observe
its content.
