[NYAPRS Enews] NYAPRS Seeks Policy and Public Affairs Director

NYAPRS Note: In a recent lunch meeting with the NYAPRS Board of
Directors, new NYS OMH Commissioner Michael Hogan spoke of a vision of
mental health system transformation that relied on progressive
leadership from 'above' and from a strong and smart call for action from
'the ground.' The NYAPRS Board has long wanted to expand our staff
capacity to support peers, progressive providers and other advocates for
change to enhance their own efforts to be informed, organized, visible
and effective, both within the mental health system and in the greater
'society,' both within New York and nationally. Accordingly, NYAPRS is
very pleased to post the following position which we believe will
greatly advance this mission.

 

 

New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services

 

Policy and Public Affairs Director

 

Prominent statewide mental health group working to transform services
and social conditions to advance the recovery, rehabilitation and rights
of people with psychiatric disabilities seeks committed, self-directed
change agent to support advocacy, education and technical assistance
efforts. 

 

Duties include regular analyses, postings and media work on issues
related to emerging state and federal policy, best practices and
research; grassroots education and organizing and coalition building
with mental health and broader healthcare, business and employment
related groups.

 

Experience and understanding of public mental health services and policy
required, as are excellent analytical, public speaking and writing
skills. Lots of travel.
